WHY?

ISTRIAN de Dignan - ECOMUSEUM was established to improve the local quality of life, promoting the values of cooperation, work and solidarity between the members and the local community.

The sense of belonging, the care taken to protect the most ancient traditions and the strenuous search for the quality, are source of inspiration for us.

The Ecomuseum members are developing projects to satisfy the local needs and to valorise the underused resources at global level.

The development of the territory and the revitalization of the material and immaterial rural culture are being achieved through an ethical approach and particular attention to the social integration of disadvantaged groups.

The association is a meeting point for people from all around the World, sharing the will of developing a better society and enjoy nature!

 

WE LOVE OUR WORK!

Our work is dedicated to the preservation of traditions, urban and rural regeneration, valorisation of local products, arts and crafts.

We are focused on developing agriculture, culture and tourism.

  • We learn from the history in the House of Traditions. A historical building in a rural town, where we stopped the time in the past, through a careful restoration of the spaces and the exposition and daily use of original items, tools and furniture brought by the community members.

    We share with the visitors multisensory experiences through tastings, guided tours, cultural events, exhibitions, practical presentations, workshops, study visits and active engagement in the rural life of the community.

    We are taking care of the last family of autochthonous donkeys. They are exchanging the favour, helping disabled people and those suffering from various diseases to feel better through onotherapy sessions.

    We turned the local Elementary School garden and dismissed facilities into a Didactic Farm, where we practice bio production mixing ancient knowledge and modern technics for growing up traditional sorts of fruit, vegetables and aromatic plants. We are helping to grow up healthy the children of the school too, teaching them the value of good food, from the seeds to their dishes.

    We are cultivating and collecting autochthonous varieties and producing typical products. The Lab where we transform local raw products into delights using traditional recipes is open to the public for practicing and tasting.

    Our food and drinks and those produced by local families are served during our events and can be bought at our store or ordered online.

    We are helping the visitors to understand the local environment through sustainable, educative and emotional tourism. Our Ecomuseum is made of people, places, products and passion. We are mixing those elements every day, showing to our guests several thematic routes to discover the territory.

Grape and Olive Harvesting

During the month of September, Ecomuseum works in the grape and olive harvest.

Ecomuseum Istrian de Dignan organizes workshops on olive and grape harvest giving the participants the opportunity to learn about the history of grapes, olive trees, traditional method of harvesting and production processes.

Work Camp

On the last two weeks of August was organized a work camp in the farm for the international volunteers of DINAMIC project, in order to build a new fence for the donkeys, a dry stone wall, and a garden that reproduce the map of Vodnjan-Dignano.

Yoga

On the second half of August took place, in Pou-Upa, a yoga class for the staff members.

We wish to inform you that the project ''Creating a unique touristic product through networking and education'' by the association ISTARSKO – Ekomuzej iz Vodnjana, was chosen to be co-funded through the Open call for programs and projects co-funding for professional associations in tourism and/or catering in 2016 by the Ministry of Tourism RH.

Saturday, 19th of March 2016 the agronomists of the Ecomuseum in collaboration with Vivaio LONGO, organized the workshop “From seeds and plants to big satisfactions in the garden”.

CARNIVAL is in town!

Creativity and imagination: our DINAMIC EVS volunteers taught how to create beautiful carnival masks at the elementary school in Vodnjan-Dignano.

On 4th February 2016 we started with our first workshop of the year “How to prepare the honey brandy? Discover the secret” at the Ecomuseum Istrian de Dignan. We learnt how to prepare a great home-made honey brandy.

Olive pruning is the first step to a good harvest

On 11-13 March we started with the first course on olive pruning, held by the agronomists of the Ecomuseum, Edi Pastrovicchio, Ivica Lađarević and other members.
